The Yogyakarta-based drone manufacturer Frogs Indonesia has entered into a strategic partnership with battery producer Matador Lectro from Sidoarjo, East Java, formalized via a memorandum of understanding. With this collaboration, Frogs Indonesia aims to strengthen domestic technology supply chains by sourcing locally-made batteries for its drone production—a response to the current reliance of most Indonesian drone producers on imported battery components. The move addresses vulnerabilities such as global price fluctuations, supply constraints, and export restrictions from abroad.
Matador Lectro will develop battery modules tailored for Frogs Indonesia’s drones, focusing on specifications like power efficiency, lightweight design, and tolerance to extreme temperature conditions. The initial phase will test local batteries in Frogs Indonesia’s agricultural-series drones and, if successful, could make the company the first in Indonesia to mass-produce drones equipped with domestically-made batteries. Supported by the Ministry of Industry’s push for higher local content in high-tech sectors, this partnership also promises to reduce production costs by up to 15–20% and opens opportunities for further research into renewable energy technologies.
