The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s China Committee (KIKT), led by Garibaldi “Boy” Thohir, expressed confidence that the recent appointment of Dr. Irene as Indonesia’s Deputy Ambassador to China will further strengthen economic ties between Indonesia and China. Boy Thohir argued that China has long been a critical partner for Indonesia—both as a major export market and a significant source of investment. He stated that business communities are ready to fully support government efforts to deepen cooperation, especially in areas such as investment, trade, human capital development, and socio-economic initiatives.
The China Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia (CCCI) welcomed Dr. Irene’s appointment. Sun Shangbin, CCCI’s chairman, asserted that the economic and trade relationship between the two nations already rests on solid foundations, citing collaborative industrial chains, two-way investments, and trade across multiple sectors. He expressed optimism that, with Dr. Irene’s experience and dedication, the bilateral economic cooperation will grow stronger, with CCCI acting as a strategic connector and facilitator. The Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry also noted that the new deputy ambassadorship is part of efforts to expand diplomatic presence—specifically, to open a new Indonesian Consulate General in China—aimed at better supporting Indonesian citizens and handling diplomatic tasks across China’s vast territory.
