Indonesia’s equatorial location grants it year-round access to a rich variety of tropical fruits—from durians and mangosteens to rambutans—making the country a global powerhouse in tropical fruit production and export. According to 2023 data from the Observatory of Economic Complexity (OEC), China was the top importer of Indonesian tropical fruits with purchases reaching USD 95.3 million, followed by Hong Kong (USD 55.3 million), and the United Arab Emirates (USD 6.24 million).
France ranked fourth (USD 1.53 million), with Singapore (USD 1.32 million) in fifth. Saudi Arabia and Malaysia followed at sixth and seventh, while Kuwait (USD 0.761 million), the Netherlands (USD 0.757 million), and Germany (USD 0.723 million) completed the top ten. Based on 2024 data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), bananas led tropical fruit production with 9.26 million tons, followed by mangoes (3.3 million tons), pineapples (2.74 million tons), Siam oranges (2.45 million tons), and salak (2.09 million tons).
