On 9 September 2025, the Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, met with the Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Litan Tri Handoko, in Jakarta. The Ministry of Creative Economy and BRIN are collaborating to strengthen the foundation of research and innovation, to accelerate the growth of the creative economy as Indonesia's new economic engine. This strategic collaboration focuses on discussing the strengthening of research and innovation synergies to map the potential of creative economy sub-sectors, recognised as a new source of wealth for the national economy. Research is the foundation for supporting creative economic growth from the regions and addressing challenges in the 17 creative economic sub-sectors, particularly the seven priority sub-sectors. The objective of this programme is to enhance the competitiveness of priority sectors, ranging from games, applications, fashion, crafts, music, to performing arts.
The data and innovations that have been produced will be synergised with associations, communities and local governments, allowing these entities to stay updated and provide direct benefits to the creative economy ecosystem. BRIN is currently focusing on increasing the selling value of agricultural products through derivative research, a highly relevant initiative that is being managed in collaboration with the Ministry of Creative Economy with a view to generating economic added value. Through the synergy of research and policy, the Ministry of Creative Economy is optimistic that the creative economy's impact on GDP, exports, investment, and employment will continue to increase within a year of work.
