Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, recently shared updates about Indonesia’s plans to import energy resources (migas) and procure 50 Boeing aircraft from the United States under a trade agreement that reduces U.S. reciprocal tariffs on Indonesian goods from 32% to 19%. The government is currently negotiating implementing agreements and gathering necessary regulations, including a Presidential Regulation, to finalise the deal. A negotiation team is in Washington to finalise the details, particularly regarding energy imports and aircraft procurement.
While some values in the agreement have already been confirmed, others remain under discussion, particularly for goods not produced in the U.S. The government emphasises that energy imports will be carefully managed to avoid overburdening the state budget, with plans to strengthen domestic energy production and diversify supply sources. The aircraft purchase will be aligned with the needs of national airlines, expected to support Indonesia’s aviation sector and boost recovery in tourism and trade.
