Magetan Reinforces Bamboo Craft Export Potential Through Targeted Training

Magetan Regency is actively nurturing the export potential of its bamboo craft industry by organizing a dedicated two-day training workshop in late August. Held at Joglo Kondang Ayem in Magetan, the initiative engaged 25 local bamboo artisan UMKM from the craft hubs of Nitikan and Ringinagung villages. Participants honed their skills in crafting diverse woven bamboo products such as fruit baskets, dome food cover trays, souvenir boxes, and cething a traditional bamboo container under the guidance of CV Esa Inti Kreatif. The local Department of Cooperatives emphasized that this hands-on training is just the beginning; the next steps include sustained mentorship and exposure to export quality standards so that Madurese bamboo artisans can penetrate international markets, including Malaysia.

Experts highlighted that the craftsmanship in Magetan has long-standing cultural significance and economic promise, supported by a growing community of skilled artisans. Government facilitation such as the provision of essential tools like saws, bamboo cutters, and planers helps bridge resource gaps while reinforcing quality at the grassroots level. "Our artisans are highly motivated and capable of meeting export standards," affirmed trainer Slamet Riyanto, who also noted that similar bamboo woven crafts from Magetan have already been exported successfully to Malaysia. This local-government-supported approach demonstrates how incremental training, resource support, and strategic partnerships can transform traditional artistry into sustainable international trade.
