KKP Will Build 10 Thousand Ha Shrimp Estate in East Aceh

The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) together with the local government plans to build a shrimp estate in East Aceh District, Aceh Province. This is in order to encourage shrimp cultivation in the country. Minister of KKP Sakti Wahyu Trenggono said that the construction of shrimp estate in East Aceh could be a trigger for economic growth for the welfare of the people around Aceh and increase local government and state revenues. "If there is fresh land we will build a shrimp estate. That will later become an industrial model," said Minister Trenggono in an official statement on Wednesday (13/1/2021).

Trenggono suggested that the shrimp estate be built on an area of 5,000 to 10,000 hectares. The technology applied can be in the form of intensive or super-intensive ponds so that the maximum yield is more than 40 tons per hectare per cycle. According to him, East Aceh is a potential area because the water and land conditions are very suitable for the development of shrimp ponds. However, the development of shrimp estate must go through a business planning and careful study so that the resulting economic value is high and the surrounding environment is sustainable. "Shrimp estate must be well organized, production up to the packaging process. Do not pollute the environment. Water conditions must be considered, including feeding and feces, do not poison the environment and the shrimp themselves. If this model is successful, it will just be imitated by other regions," he said.

Later, the shrimp estate in East Aceh will be part of the construction of 200 thousand hectares of aquaculture ponds targeted by Minister Trenggono. "If possible, by 2022 we will have the first harvest. My target is Indonesia to become the largest shrimp producer in the world," he said.

On the same occasion, East Aceh Regent Hasballah Bin H.M Thalib agreed to Trenggono's proposal to collaborate in building a shrimp estate in his area. This proposal is in line with the development program of a 10,000 hectare cluster of vannamei shrimp ponds initiated by the regional government. The land is already available. "The 10,000 hectare shrimp estate program is very much in line with the cluster program, where these clusters will become 1 in 1 shrimp estate area. So 10 hectares for the cluster program is part of the shrimp estate," said Hasballah.

According to him, shrimp estate will become a business model that can be imitated by the community who have been managing ponds conventionally. The area of ponds in East Aceh reaches 18,697 hectares with a production output of 13,508 tons / year. With the presence of shrimp estate, Hasballah is optimistic that his area can become a center for aquaculture production."We will work quickly, forming a team to accelerate the implementation of activities because it is very good for improving the people's economy. There will be a lot of energy absorbed and the economic cycle will run smoothly, automatically the regional economy will increase," he concluded.
