All Industrial Sectors to Benefit from IEU-CEPA Completion

The Indonesian Ministry of Trade has announced that all domestic industrial sectors stand to gain once the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA) is finalized. According to Djatmiko Bris Witjaksono, Director General of International Trade Negotiations, the agreement will provide broader market access for various processed commodities, with strong interest already shown by European markets in sectors such as fisheries, textiles, and footwear.

Djatmiko emphasized that no single industry will dominate; instead, the benefits will be distributed across sectors. This is especially important amid global trade challenges, including reciprocal tariffs from the U.S. The IEU-CEPA, currently in its 19th negotiation round since 2024, is expected to conclude by mid or early second half of 2025. The deal is projected to boost trade volume and value between Indonesia and the EU by 5%–10%. In 2023, total trade between the two reached USD 30.8 billion, with key Indonesian exports including palm oil, copper ore, and footwear. The Ministry of Trade remains optimistic that finalizing the IEU-CEPA will deepen Indonesia’s trade ties and strengthen its position in the global supply chain.
