The Animal, Fish and Plant Quarantine Office (BKHIT) of South Sumatra facilitated the export of pineapple fiber from Prabumulih City to Spain. "To facilitate the export of this commodity, our team has conducted inspections and standardization of pineapple fiber from one of the cities in the province of 17 districts and cities according to the destination country of export," said Head of BKHIT South Sumatra Kostan Manalu, in Palembang, on March 23th. According to him, the important role of BKHIT South Sumatra (Indonesian Quarantine Agency) in ensuring that plantation products to be exported meet safety standards from plant-disturbing microorganisms and technical requirements of the destination country.
A series of quarantine measures are carried out strictly, starting from physical examinations, laboratory testing, to the issuance of phytosanitary certificates. Phytosanitary is a series of plant quarantine measures carried out before exporting agricultural and plantation commodities. With the assistance of the BKHIT South Sumatra team, it is hoped that the products to be exported will truly meet the standards and requirements so that when they arrive in the destination country of export there will be no problems or rejections. Pineapple fiber that goes through a strict inspection process according to the standards and requirements determined by the destination country of export, is expected to satisfy buyers and make ongoing demand contracts with larger volumes. Pineapple fiber from Prabumulih City, South Sumatra, is exported to meet the demand of the textile and craft industry as an alternative material to replace leather for shoe and bag products. In addition to Spain, pineapple fiber from this area is also in demand by several industries in the Asian region such as Singapore and Malaysia, said Kostan Manalu.
