Government Develops Special Economic Zones to Attract Investment

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto has announced plans to develop several Special Economic Zones (KEK) in 2025. These include the Two Countries Twin Parks cooperation between Indonesia and Fujian Province, China, to encourage industrial investment in the Batang KEK, with an investment plan of IDR 16 trillion. Secondly, the Nongsa Digital Park KEK in Batam will be expanded to follow up on plans to establish several data centres. Thirdly, the Singhasari KEK will see the establishment of King's College London, Queen Mary of London, and Imperial College London universities.

The Indonesian economy has demonstrated resilience, with positive growth in key sectors such as food, beverages, metals, textiles, machinery, equipment, exports and trade. As of February 2025, Indonesia's economic growth remains robust, and the inflation rate remains low, with core inflation at 2.48%. Furthermore, in February 2025, the Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) remained at a consistently optimistic level of 126.4. Meanwhile, the Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) remained expansionary at 53.6, supported by credit growth of 10.3% in January, Third Party Fund (DPK) growth of 5.51%, and foreign exchange reserves were still relatively high at the end of February 2025. Moving forward, there is a plan to revise the Presidential Decree on People's Business Credit (KUR), and a Productive Business Financing Policy Committee consisting of the Coordinating Minister for Food and the Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment shall be established. The development of the international agreement negotiation process includes the OECD accession process, which has reached the delivery of part of the initial memorandum. The IEU-CEPA cooperation plan is related to export duties and import licensing. On 14-15 April 20 25, Indonesia and Russia will formulate the final results of the Eurasian Economic Union FTA agreement; and the CP-TPP free trade agreement in the accession process, which is expected to open the markets of Mexico, Canada, Peru, and the UK.
