Good News, Here's the Omnibus Law Called Easier Halal Certification for MSMEs

The omnibus law regulation through the Law or the Job Creation Law is said to facilitate the processing of halal certificates for micro-entrepreneurs. In addition, through the Copyright Law, the management of halal certificates will be made free for small business actors. "Alhamdulillah, through the Job Creation Law, halal certification for Micro and Small Enterprises (MSMEs) is free of charge," said Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Teten Masduki, through a written statement in Jakarta, Monday, October 20, 2020.

According to Teten, the halal industry is one of the fastest growing industries in the world. Data from the State of The Global Islamic Economy Report 2020 shows a value of around US $ 2.2 trillion in 2018 with a growth rate of 5.2 percent per year. "In this case, Indonesia is in 4th place in the halal tourism industry, 3rd for Muslim fashion, and 5th for Islamic finance," said Teten. However, for halal food products, Indonesia is not yet in the top 10.

Teten explained, the biggest challenge for halal certification for micro, small and medium enterprises or MSMEs is the high cost of certification, and makes it difficult for MSMEs to access it. As a result, so far only medium and large businesses that have sufficient capital have been able to obtain halal certificates. Teten emphasized that the ministry he leads continues to develop program and policy initiatives to support the development of halal product guarantees, among other things, since 2015-2019 facilitating halal certification to MSMEs. "The results of our survey show that those who have obtained a halal certificate have their business turnover increased by 8.53 percent," he said. Not only halal certification, assistance, according to him, is important. Both in providing education on halal product management and registration.
Minister of Religion Fachrul Razi said, Law Number 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Guarantee aims to not only guarantee halal products but also to increase added value for MSMEs in selling and marketing UMKM products. He said, it is important for MSMEs to understand and fulfill halal products. In the online activity entitled "Training on Digitalization of Marketing and Management of Halal Products for MSMEs", Fachrul explained that the 2020 fiscal year the ministry had allocated facilities and certification of halal products for 3,283 MSME players. "The decision to provide free halal facilitation has not simple impacts, one of which is the distribution of MSMEs, which totaled 62.5 million actors," said Fachrul.
