The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that the growth of agricultural product exports increased by 20.84 percent compared to the previous month of August 2020 (M to M). This significant increase was contributed by a significant increase in export volume, including several horticultural products such as annual vegetables and fruits, as well as coffee and pepper. "The agricultural sector in September 2020 grew very well. Based on month to month (M to M) it rose 20.84 percent and year on year (yoy) also increased by 16.22 percent," said the Head of BPS, Suhariyanto, in a video conference at his office, Jakarta, Thursday (15/10). Meanwhile, Suhariyanto added that the year-on-year (yoy) agricultural sector exports increased by 16.22 percent due to the increase in export value in several commodities such as bird's nests, caught shrimp, vegetables, cloves and black pepper.

"The consistent increase in agricultural exports accompanied by a decrease in the share of mining causes the share from agriculture to slowly creep up," he added. The Head of BPS also said that the contribution of the agricultural sector in September 2020 to the total value of exports had increased by 0.41 percent compared to September 2019. Export value in September 2019 was recorded to have contributed 2.5 percent while in September 2020, the agricultural sector contributed 2.95. percent. "If the share of agriculture to our total exports in September 2019 was only 2.5 percent, while in September 2020 this increased to 2.95 percent," said Suhariyanto.

During January-September 2020, Indonesia's non-oil and gas exports according to the manufacturing sector decreased 0.25 percent compared to 2019 which was contributed by a decrease in motor vehicle exports, exports of mining and other products decreased by 23.96 percent and coal exports, while exports of agricultural products increased 9.70 percent due to increased annual fruit exports. "Of course we hope that in the future the exports of this agricultural sector will increase again," said Suhariyanto.
