This regulation aims to improve the governance of Indonesia Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) by opening spaces for stakeholder participation.
The government is currently drafting regulations derived from Presidential Regulation Number 44 of 2020 regarding the Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil Certification System. This derivative regulation in the form of Minister of Agriculture Regulation (Permentan) is targeted to be completed by the end of August.
“Hopefully the draft of the Permentan on the principles and criteria for new ISPO will be completed by the end of August,” said Deputy of Agriculture and Forestry of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Musdhalifah Machmud in a webinar on Strengthening Sustainable Palm Oil Management, Tuesday (25/8).
According to him, the derivative of Presidential Decree 44/2020 aims to improve the governance of Indonesia Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) by opening up spaces for stakeholder participation, increasing accountability, and transparency. This regulation also serves to restructure the ISPO Commission in terms of membership, duties, and functions.
This regulation will also improve the standards and requirements of ISPO certifications, increasing attention to the problem of deforestation, peatland conversion, and greenhouse gas emissions. Next, build a more credible monitoring mechanism. Read more
