The North Sulawesi Animal, Fish, and Plant Quarantine Center (BKHIT Sulut) is set to enhance the monitoring of export products on the new Manado, North Sulawesi to Kinabalu, Malaysia route. "We support the opening of the new Manado-Kinabalu flight route," said I Wayan Kertanegara, Head of BKHIT Sulut, in Manado on Monday. He stated that with the addition of this new international flight route, BKHIT Sulut is committed to continuously improving surveillance and control to ensure the safety and health of export-import traffic of animal, fish, and plant commodities between countries.
The Kinabalu-Manado flight is scheduled to operate three times a week, specifically on Mondays, Fridays, and Sundays. During these times, quarantine officers from BKHIT Sulut, particularly those stationed at Sam Ratulangi Airport Service Unit, will conduct inspections of passengers' baggage and cargo containing animal, fish, and plant commodities. The prospect of exporting fishery products from North Sulawesi to Kinabalu is seen as having significant potential. Therefore, Wayan urges business operators to comply with quarantine reporting so that the commodities exported have undergone quarantine inspection, ensuring their safety and health for cross-regional transport. Additionally, quarantine oversight is continuously being strengthened to ensure that all animal, fish, and plant traffic entering and exiting North Sulawesi possesses quarantine documents from the origin region/country. This measure is to prevent the transmission of diseases from the animals, fish, and plants being shipped.
