East Kalimantan Export Palm Kernel Expeller Worth IDR 55 Billion to South Korea

Businesses in East Kalimantan are leveraging palm kernel expeller exports to South Korea, with 10,499 tons worth IDR 55 billion shipped in late March 2024. Quarantine measures, overseen by East Kalimantan Quarantine Officials, included fumigation on transport vessels to eliminate Plant Pest Organisms (PPO) before shipment. Fumigation, conducted by a third-party company registered with the Indonesian Quarantine Agency, followed laboratory tests revealing live insects alphitobius diaperinus and tribolium castaneum in palm kernel samples. Abdul Rahman, Plant Quarantine Task Force Chair, noted fumigation atop the MV Trawind Fortune vessel using Phosphine (PH3), ensuring pre-border risk mitigation effectiveness.

This oversight aims to minimize health, safety, and environmental risks to livestock, humans, and the environment in South Korea, where palm kernel expellers are primarily used in animal feed. Upon successful fumigation completion, Quarantine Officials issue a Phytosanitary Certificate (KT-10) meeting destination country requirements. Tasrif, Acting Head of East Kalimantan Quarantine, emphasized that healthy, PPO-free palm kernel expellers with origin country Phytosanitary Certificates boost exports and Indonesia's economy through foreign exchange earnings.
