Recently inaugurated on February 22, 2024, is a major port located in South Sulawesi Province. Known as Makassar New Port, it stands as the largest port in the eastern region of Indonesia, aimed at streamlining logistics costs within the country. The port's development involved an investment totaling IDR 5.4 trillion, financed directly by the state-owned enterprise PT Pelindo. With a capacity to handle up to 2.5 million TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units), Makassar New Port has been acknowledged by President Jokowi as the second-largest port after Tanjung Priok Port. With a depth of 16 meters, the port is effective for accommodating large vessels carrying containers. It plays a crucial role in reducing logistics costs in Indonesia, where a decade ago, logistics costs stood at 24%, significantly higher than other countries averaging 9-12%.

President Jokowi noted a reduction in Indonesia's logistics costs to around 14%, yet emphasized the need for further reductions. Makassar New Port serves as a gateway to the world for the Eastern Indonesian Region, ensuring the accommodation of large vessels from around the globe. Acting Governor of South Sulawesi, Bahtiar Baharuddin, highlighted the port's significant role in restoring the province's prominence as a trading hub, considering Makassar's strategic geographic position in the eastern region of Indonesia. Moreover, the South Sumatra Provincial Government commits to contributing logistics from agriculture, plantations, fisheries, and livestock to various countries.
