Italy continues to excel in religious hospitality, boasting a system with three thousand accommodation facilities offering 200 thousand beds per day, supporting religious tourism as a pivotal asset of the entire industry. The outstanding figures of 2023, with 6 million guests and 25 million stays, are expected to increase in anticipation of the Jubilee to be held in Rome in 2025: a major event projected to bring 35 million arrivals, 105 million stays, and nearly USD 17 billion in tourism spending to Italy.
These numbers solidify Italy's position as a global leader in religious tourism. Given our immense heritage tied to faith, the ministry aims to enhance this by actively participating in Jubilee-related initiatives and allocating specific measures totaling over EUR 19 million to boost the competitiveness of religious routes. This was stated by Tourism Minister Daniela Santanchè in reference to the 2024 Report by the Italian Religious Hospitality Association and the Chamber of Commerce Tourism Economics Observatory.
