The iconic Minangkabau dish, rendang, is poised for global recognition as the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Treasury (DJPb) in West Sumatra collaborates with the Association of Minangkabau Rendang Entrepreneurs (HIPERMI) to elevate it to a flagship export commodity. With 67 rendang entrepreneurs onboard, HIPERMI, led by Fibrianti Takarina, aims to categorize them based on export capabilities and business legality. Rendang's export production capacity stands at 10 tons per month, potentially tripling with support from rendang centers in other cities or districts. The initiative has received full support from the West Sumatra Provincial Government, particularly from Governor Mahyeldi, recognizing rendang's immense potential to go global.
The Regional Office of DJPb in West Sumatra has opened doors for rendang entrepreneurs through HIPERMI to maximize exports, backed by the provincial government. Support includes guidance to meet export standards, halal certification, and international market development. Novrial, Head of the West Sumatra Trade and Industry Office, commends this strategic move, urging rendang entrepreneurs to embrace challenges and sustainably engage in rendang exports. "SMEs must boldly tackle challenges and sustainably export rendang to generate foreign exchange," he emphasized.
