Positive Performance of Car Exports from Indonesia Maintained in March 2024

In March 2024, Indonesia's automotive export industry witnessed a significant rebound, as reported by the Indonesian Automotive Industries Association (Gaikindo). The total exports of completely built-up (CBU) vehicles surged to 40,456 units, marking a remarkable 16.3% increase compared to the previous month. This uptick reflects a return to normal shipping activities following a slowdown earlier in the year. Key players contributing to this growth include Toyota, Isuzu, Hyundai, and Mitsubishi Motors, with Toyota and Daihatsu collectively retaining their position as the leading vehicle exporters from Indonesia. Meanwhile, exports of completely knocked down (CKD) vehicles and automotive components also saw a notable increase, rising by 29.6% during the same period. Mitsubishi Motors emerged as the dominant player in CKD exports, accounting for nearly 80% of the total volume with 3,822 unit sets. However, despite this surge in March, cumulative exports of cars from Indonesia during January-March 2024 still recorded a decline of 8.4% compared to the same period the previous year, totaling 40,456 units.

The breakdown of CBU car exports in March 2024 reveals Toyota leading the pack with 12,096 units, followed by Mitsubishi Motors with 10,313 units and Daihatsu with 8,914 units. Hyundai - HMMI, Suzuki, Isuzu, Honda, Wuling, Hino, and DFSK also made notable contributions to the export figures. In the CKD segment, Mitsubishi Motors maintained its dominance with 3,822 unit sets exported in March 2024, followed by Suzuki with 769 unit sets and Hyundai - HMMI with 540 unit sets. Additionally, the export of automotive components showcased impressive figures, with Toyota leading the way with 12,435,723 pieces, followed by Honda, Hino, Hyundai - HMMI, and Suzuki. Despite challenges faced earlier in the year, Indonesia's automotive export industry demonstrates resilience and continued competitiveness in international markets, positioning the country as a key player in the global automotive supply chain.
