The Ministry of Industry is Pushing For The Development Of Metal-Based Kitchen Equipment Industry

Kementerian Perindustrian is driving the development of metal-based kitchen equipment industries to enhance economic value and sustainable effects for the nation's economic competitiveness. Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita stated in Jakarta on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, that domestically-produced metal-based kitchen equipment such as gas stoves, cookware, utensils, and dishwashing sinks are expected to dominate the market. To achieve this goal, the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) has implemented various policies, including setting minimum quality standards and product quality through mandatory Indonesian National Standards (SNI). One of the SNI implementations is in the gas stove industry. Currently, Indonesia has 31 gas stove companies with a production capacity of 33.7 million units per year. "This industry is divided into two types: household gas stoves, where the mandatory SNI has been in effect since 2013 and 2015, while discussions on the mandatory SNI implementation for commercial gas stoves are underway, awaiting harmonization processes at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights," said Agus. He explained that Kemenperin is also accelerating the development of local components in this industry. Currently, the draft Ministerial Regulation (Permenperin) for the mandatory SNI regarding cookware and utensils is still in the discussion process, with the target of implementation in 2024.

The average Domestic Component Level (TKDN) set ranges from 40% to 85%. "I hope that the implementation of these supportive policies for domestic industries can maintain a conducive business and investment climate domestically, enabling domestic industries to continue to grow," Agus said. Additionally, he stated that the development of metal-based kitchen equipment industries is also an effort to continuously improve the performance of the metal industry. Currently, the productivity of the steel industry has been increasing since 2020. This year, national steel consumption is estimated to reach 18.3 million tons, growing by 5.2% following the consumption growth trend post-Covid-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, in 2023, the growth of basic metal industries and non-machine metal goods industries recorded 14.17% and 23.63% annually (Y-on-Y), respectively. "We need to maintain these trends to create a more conducive business climate, attract investments, and create import substitution. Through appropriate policies, Kemenperin strives to enhance the competitiveness and revenue growth of the national metal industry," Agus concluded.
