Indonesia, as the country with the largest Muslim population globally, has been steadily advancing towards becoming a global hub for halal industry. With the projected growth of the Muslim population until 2050, Indonesia's strength in trading halal products internationally is substantial. Recognizing the immense potential of the halal industry, Populix released a report titled "Indonesia's Halal Industry" to examine the factors supporting Indonesia's halal industry and the sectors that need improvement. "Most respondents are aware of and understand the concept of the halal industry, reflecting successful educational efforts in Indonesia. The strong belief in the positive contribution of the halal industry to the country's economy is also evident in our research findings, although awareness of the Halal Industrial Zone remains limited. However, the public is optimistic that the development of the halal industry can support Indonesia's vision as the World's Halal Center," stated Indah Tanip, Head of Research at Populix, quoted in Jakarta on Sunday (March 31, 2024).

In response to these challenges, the Indonesian government under the leadership of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has reaffirmed its commitment to make Indonesia the Global Halal Hub by 2024. This step is based on the significant market potential for halal products in the country. Additionally, Indonesia ranks top as the largest consumer of halal products compared to other Muslim-majority countries. The majority of Indonesians are increasingly aware of the importance of the halal industry. Seventy-three percent of respondents admitted to being familiar with the halal industry, with most of them having a good understanding of the concept. The activity of seeking information about the halal industry through social media is also on the rise, reflecting the significant role of social media in providing deeper insights into the halal industry. Moreover, the majority of the population (80%) believes that the halal industry positively contributes to the country's economy.
