Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy: The Film Industry Has a Significant Impact on the National Economy and Tourism.

Kementerian Pariwisata dan Ekonomi Kreatif/Badan Pariwisata dan Ekonomi Kreatif (Kemenparekraf/Baparekraf) is committed to advancing the national film industry, which has shown positive development in recent decades. According to reports from PWC and LPEM Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Indonesia, the total revenue of the screen industry (film, animation, and video) is predicted to grow from IDR 90.9 trillion in 2022 to IDR 109.6 trillion by 2027. Each IDR 1 trillion increase in screen industry revenue can generate an economic output worth IDR 1.43 trillion, contribute IDR 892 billion to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and create 4,300 new job opportunities. Mohammad Amin, Director of Music, Film, and Animation at the Deputy of Digital Economy and Creative Products, Kemenparekraf/Baparekraf RI, highlighted the positive indicators in the film industry, emphasizing not only production quality and genre innovation but also audience numbers and collaborative spirit among creative industry players.

The film industry has four main impacts on the national economy according to Kemenparekraf. Firstly, direct impacts include ticket sales and job creation through film production, distribution, and marketing involving various workers such as actors, directors, production crews, and more. Secondly, the industry's success indirectly boosts supporting industries like production companies, wardrobe, electrical, and others. Thirdly, the income received by workers in the film industry and its supporting sectors can enhance people's purchasing power, potentially driving consumption in other sectors of the economy. Fourthly, popular films can attract domestic and international tourists to shooting locations, boosting tourism and shopping activities. Efforts to support the progress of the national film industry include financial assistance to Indonesian filmmakers through the National Economic Recovery (PEN) Film 2021 program, providing a total of IDR 114 billion for 110 feature films. Other initiatives include the Lensa Kreatif program for short film production and the monthly Film Festival (Fesbul) for local filmmakers, as well as participation in international film festivals and marketing promotions through various channels. Most recently, Kemenparekraf facilitated Indonesian film content at the Hong Kong Int'l Film & TV Market (FILMART), resulting in potential transactions worth up to IDR 250 billion. Additionally, Kemenparekraf is working on a cash rebate scheme for foreign and domestic film productions in tourist destinations.
