Aromatherapy Candle Products from Bogor's MSMEs Go Global, Revenue Hits IDR 700 Million

Jakarta Candle, a Bogor-based Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME), has successfully penetrated the international market with its aromatherapy candle products. Yulianah, the owner of Jakarta Candle, ventured into the candle business in 2011, leveraging her experience in the industry and utilizing locally available spices such as cinnamon. Despite encountering initial challenges, including a modest starting capital of IDR 5 million and a production capacity of 50 to 100 decorative candles, the business steadily expanded over the years. In 2018, Yulianah enrolled in the Coaching Program for New Exporters (CPNE) offered by the Indonesian Export Financing Institution (LPEI), a specialized training program designed to equip MSMEs with the necessary knowledge and skills to enter the export market. Through CPNE, participants receive tailored training in export marketing strategies, including digital marketing techniques, enabling them to enhance product quality and competitiveness in the global market.

With ongoing guidance and innovation, Jakarta Candle has diversified its product range to include organic candles made from palm waste and beeswax. Utilizing a variety of indigenous spices and organic materials, such as cinnamon and beeswax from beehives, the company has garnered international attention, exporting up to 500 candles annually, constituting 20% of its total production. The most exported product is the beeswax candle. Over the years, Jakarta Candle has expanded its market reach to countries such as Singapore, Australia, and several European nations, achieving an annual revenue of up to IDR 700 million. The company's unique selling proposition lies in its use of authentic Indonesian ingredients with distinctive spice aromas. The product range is priced between IDR 26,000 and IDR 300,000, with custom orders available upon request. Yulianah expresses gratitude to LPEI for its guidance and support, emphasizing the invaluable training and digital marketing assistance received, despite not accessing financial aid, as she solely funded her business endeavors. The collaboration with LPEI has enabled Jakarta Candle to navigate the complexities of international trade and establish a strong foothold in the global market.
