Wakil Menteri Keuangan (Wamenkeu) Suahasil Nazara embarked on a series of meetings with Indonesian Government Bond (SUN) investors in several European cities during his official visit from March 13 to 19, 2024. The primary objective of these engagements was to maintain investors' trust in Indonesia's economy. "Trust is paramount, particularly for Indonesia," stated Suahasil in Jakarta on Monday. Suahasil described the discussions with investors as cordial yet productive. During these sessions, he elaborated on Indonesia's strong economic fundamentals and reassured investors about the safety of their investments in Indonesia. "While domestic investors' confidence post-pandemic has led to a declining trend in foreign investors' ownership of SUN instruments, we still require foreign investor involvement for external financing of the state budget, investment sources, and as a source of capital inflow for the domestic financial market," Suahasil explained.
According to Suahasil, the investors responded positively to the explanations regarding Indonesia's macroeconomic and fiscal achievements. They also expressed their primary concerns regarding Indonesia, such as growth projections, investment trends, domestic financial market development, and the movement of the rupiah exchange rate. Furthermore, Suahasil highlighted Indonesia's resilience in economic growth post-pandemic, emphasizing that the government's structural reforms have started yielding results. "The success stories of Indonesia must be continuously shared with the global audience. This not only maintains investors' trust in Indonesia but also demonstrates the significant role our beloved country plays on the global stage," he emphasized. He also assured the continued credibility, transparency, and accountability in government management during the transition period. "The implementation of the 2024 State Budget and the preparation of the 2025 State Budget will be carried out according to the agreed-upon cycle with the Parliament," he added.
