The Indonesian Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDPKS) has announced Indonesia's target to produce over 50 million tons of palm oil by 2025. Arfie Thahar, Head of Program Services Division at BPDPKS, highlighted palm oil as Indonesia's leading export commodity, being the world's largest Crude Palm Oil (CPO) producer. The increased palm oil production is expected to bolster food industry supplies, including cooking oil, palm oil-based foods, and bioenergy for both domestic and global markets. Arfie emphasized the significant role of palm oil, noting its economic impact and urging current generations to sustainably manage palm resources. BPDPKS, operating under the Directorate General of Treasury, Ministry of Finance, manages funds derived from palm oil export levies, aiming to improve farmer welfare, stabilize CPO prices, and strengthen downstream industries.
Kabul Wijayanto, Director of Planning and Fund Management at BPDPKS, and Acting Director of Partnerships, stressed the importance of sustainable palm oil management due to Indonesia's vast palm potential. Recognizing palm oil as a major contributor to the national economy, Kabul highlighted the crucial role of youth in understanding and contributing to the palm industry. In efforts to educate the younger generation about the palm industry, BPDPKS organized educational seminars nationwide, including the recent GenSawit Talkshow in Padang, West Sumatra. Kabul expressed hope that such initiatives would inspire youth to actively participate in advancing the palm industry, dispelling negative perceptions and fostering positive contributions to Indonesia's economy. The agency aims for these endeavors to cultivate a more favorable outlook towards the palm industry, ultimately benefiting the nation in both the present and the future.
