The MSME sector supports 50% of the economic growth in the city of Madiun.

The micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) sector in Madiun City is currently thriving, significantly boosting the local economy through increased circulation of money within the MSME sector. The practitioners in this sector are experiencing substantial income, especially during Ramadan. For instance, Narto, a fruit ice seller in Bundaran Taman, reported earning between IDR 200,000 to 400,000 every day from 2:00 PM until just before breaking the fast. Andriono Waskito Murti, the Head of the Department of Labor, Cooperatives, and Micro Enterprises (Disnaker-KUM) of Madiun City, affirmed that the MSME sector is one of the main drivers of the city's economy. The local government is actively facilitating various locations for MSME activities, including the Pahlawan Religius Center (PRC), Pahlawan Business Center (PBC), and neighborhood stalls. According to Andriono, 40-50% of Madiun City's economic growth comes from the MSME sector, a figure expected to increase during Ramadan.

Based on local statistics from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), there were a total of 32,546 MSMEs in Madiun City in 2023, with turnovers ranging from IDR 2 billion. Among them, 388 businesses had turnovers between IDR 2-15 billion, while 42 businesses had turnovers between IDR 15-50 billion. To further boost this key sector, the local government is implementing various strategies for equitable development. Together with several agencies, Disnaker-KUM will organize a Ramadan takjil bazaar targeting 27 neighborhoods with 32 stall locations. This initiative aims to stimulate the economy in each neighborhood.
