Aiming for IDR 1.650 Trillion, Investment Driven to Spread Across Indonesia

The Ministry of Investment/BKPM targets investments worth IDR 1,650 trillion in 2024, up from IDR 1,400 trillion in 2023. Nurul Ichwan, Deputy for Investment Promotion at BKPM, emphasizes the promotion of investment potentials no longer being centralized in Java Island but spreading across various islands. Nurul notes that investment distribution has become more equitable, with Java accounting for 51% in 2023, leaving the rest outside Java. This shift is attributed to the government's vigorous exploration of natural resource investment potentials outside Java, as most of these resources are located beyond the island. While focusing on regions outside Java, Nurul stresses that there are no specific priority areas, as BKPM connects investor needs with the resource potentials of different regions.

BKPM tailors its promotion according to investors' requirements and available opportunities in various sectors and regions. For instance, in agriculture, BKPM promotes investment in Papua or Sumatra, while for mining, focus areas include Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua. BKPM's data reflects a steady increase in investment interest outside Java over the years, with investments reaching IDR 417.5 trillion in 2021, IDR 636.3 trillion in 2022, and IDR 545.8 trillion in the January-September 2023 period. This decentralized approach to investment promotion underscores the government's commitment to fostering balanced economic development across Indonesia's diverse regions.
