The Government Encourages 10 Local Furniture SMEs to Penetrate Export Markets

The Ministry of Industry is actively supporting small and medium-sized furniture industries (IKM) by facilitating their participation in national and international exhibitions, such as the Jogja International Furniture and Craft Fair Indonesia (JIFFINA). JIFFINA 2024, held at Jogja Expo Center from March 2nd to 5th, marks its 8th year, showcasing the sector's resilience amidst global uncertainties. Reni Yanita, the Director-General of IKMA at the Ministry, highlighted the significant contribution of the furniture industry to Indonesia's non-oil and gas manufacturing sector, reaching 1.3% of the GDP in 2023, with exports valued at USD 1.8 billion. The event, part of the ASEAN and China furniture exhibition circuit, provides a vital platform for IKMs to access export markets, leveraging Yogyakarta's cultural and creative hub. JIFFINA 2024, themed "The Eco Lifestyle Inspiring Forever," emphasizes environmentally friendly products, aligning with global trends.

The Business Matching program facilitates formal meetings between buyers and exhibitors, enhancing business opportunities. Reni encourages industry players to innovate while preserving cultural heritage and environmental sustainability, aiming to position Indonesia as a trendsetter in eco-friendly furniture. The large domestic market, including government procurement, presents significant opportunities for IKMs, underscoring the importance of obtaining Domestic Component Level (TKDN) certificates. Ministerial Regulation No. 46/2022 simplifies TKDN value calculations, promoting TKDN certification for small industries within five working days. Among the ten IKMs featured at JIFFINA 2024 are CV. Aksata Furnicraft International, Semogajaya Furnicraft, and CV. Meuble Land Indonesia, representing various regions. Yedi Sabaryadi, Director of SMEs for Food, Furniture, and Building Materials, highlights the mentorship process for selected IKMs, focusing on product selection, design, and layout to optimize their exhibition experience. This comprehensive support aims to strengthen Indonesia's furniture industry's competitiveness in both domestic and international markets.
