ICAEW: Presidential Decree 14/2024 Indonesia's Strategic Investment in Clean Energy

The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) regards Indonesia's Presidential Regulation No. 14 of 2024 on Carbon Capture and Storage as a strategic investment move in the clean energy sector. Head of ICAEW Indonesia, Conny Siahaan, emphasizes the significance of implementing this regulation, particularly amid increasing global demand for renewable energy. Countries leading in carbon capture and storage technology development are poised to gain significant competitive advantages.

Conny highlights Indonesia's abundant natural resources, positioning the country to emerge as a leader in this innovation, fostering job creation and driving sustainable economic growth. Additionally, the development of infrastructure for carbon capture and storage presents extensive investment opportunities from both the private sector and international financial institutions. Through robust partnerships between the government and private sector, Indonesia can accelerate the adoption of this technology, creating a business ecosystem supportive of sustainable economic growth. However, Conny stresses the need for a strong framework to manage risks and ensure equitable distribution of economic benefits across society. Engaging diverse stakeholders, including local communities and civil society organizations, is crucial to effectively transitioning towards a sustainable economy. ICAEW is committed to supporting Indonesia's efforts in addressing climate change issues and expediting the transition to a sustainable economy. Conny believes that through collaboration between the government, private sector, and civil society, Indonesia can serve as a model for other nations in tackling climate change challenges with sustainable leadership and innovation.
