Purwakarta Continues to Develop Potential Commodities to Penetrate National and International Markets

The Purwakarta Regency government continues to develop various potential commodities from agriculture, plantations, fisheries, creative economy, culinary, and other sectors to compete in and meet both national and international markets' demands. Head of the Purwakarta District Communication and Informatics Office, Rudi Hartono, noted that this initiative follows the success of Wanayasa Mangosteen commodities in penetrating and flooding the international market. The recent exportation of hundreds of tons of Mangosteens to China reflects this success, with the shipment led by the Acting Regent, Benni Irwan, on March 7th, 2024. According to Hartono, the international market demand for Wanayasa Mangosteens from Purwakarta is substantial, reaching various regions including ASEAN countries, the Middle East, the Asia Pacific, and some European countries. He highlighted the Mangosteen's popularity in Middle Eastern countries as a fruit often consumed after meals due to its health benefits.

The Acting Regent has directed various related agencies within the Purwakarta Regency government to capitalize on the success of Mangosteen exports as momentum to develop other commodities from different sectors for broader markets, both national and international. Apart from Mangosteens, Purwakarta also boasts other potential commodities such as inland fisheries and the creative economy and culinary industry. These include the well-known ceramic crafts in Plered and the signature dish Sate Maranggi. Additionally, according to Sri Jaya Midan, Head of the Purwakarta Food and Agriculture Office, Rambutan fruits are another potential commodity that could meet broader markets. Rambutan from Purwakarta has already made a mark in the national market, with significant demand from various regions in Sumatra, West Java, and Banten. Various districts within Purwakarta have gained recognition as quality Rambutan producers, including Campaka, Cibatu, Bungursari, and Babakan Cikao. Midan stated plans to develop various leading commodities to penetrate both national and international markets, with Rambutan being one of the focuses.
