The electric vehicle (EV) battery factory will commence production in April 2024.

The Indonesian government has revealed plans for the commencement of mass production of electric vehicle (EV) batteries in April 2024. This announcement marks a significant milestone in the country's industrial landscape, positioning Indonesia as a pioneering manufacturer of EV battery cells in Southeast Asia. PT Hyundai LG Indonesia (HLI) Green Power, based in Karawang, West Java, stands at the forefront of this initiative, poised to lead the charge in transforming nickel into high-quality batteries for electric vehicles.

This strategic move underscores the government's unwavering commitment to fostering a robust ecosystem for electric vehicles, exemplified by a substantial investment totaling USD 9.8 billion or approximately IDR 142 trillion. The establishment of PT HLI Green Power's battery production facility, initiated in September 2021 and now ready for operation, reflects Indonesia's determination to reduce reliance on imported EV batteries and bolster its domestic manufacturing sector. This endeavor not only promises to propel Indonesia into a leadership position in the burgeoning electric vehicle market but also signifies a crucial step towards achieving sustainability and technological advancement in the automotive industry.
