The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports a national increase in the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) in February 2024. The WPI rose by 0.73% month-on-month (mtm) in February 2024. "In February 2024, the general national Wholesale Price Index (WPI) inflation, on a month-to-month basis, was 0.73%, while on a year-on-year basis, it stood at 3.23%," explained BPS Deputy for Production Statistics M. Habibullah in a press conference in Jakarta on Friday (1/3/2024). This change reflects economic dynamics across various sectors. WPI inflation developments by sector indicate both monthly and yearly inflation increases across all sectors.
Both monthly and yearly, the agriculture sector recorded the largest increase. "The largest increase occurred in the agriculture sector, by 1.3%. Year-on-year, the agriculture sector again leads with an increase of 7.15%," he added. This change is reflected in the National Wholesale Price Index (WPI), which reached 118.60 in February 2024, up by 3.23% from the previous year. The agriculture sector recorded the highest increase at 7.15%, while the industrial sector rose by 2.38%, and the mining and quarrying sector increased by 0.61%. Changes in the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) serve as a significant indicator in understanding Indonesia's economic dynamics. Inflation increases can affect the purchasing power of the public and influence the economic policies implemented by the government.
