The Purchase of Domestic Products Strengthens National Economic Resilience

The Ministry of Industry is urging the public to choose local products, emphasizing that purchasing these products will support the national economy. This was highlighted during the "Domestic Product Shopping" Business Matching event in Denpasar, Bali, on Monday, March 4th, aimed at connecting industry players as producers with domestic product users, especially those utilizing government budgets through procurement of goods and services. The 2024 Business Matching is a continuation of similar successful agendas held in 2022 and 2023. Secretary General of the Ministry of Industry, Eko S.A. Cahyanto, stated during the media briefing of the event that President Jokowi consistently reminds ministries/agencies, local governments, and state-owned enterprises to increase the use of domestic products through government procurement of goods and services. Hence, this year, the Business Matching event is organized as the largest matchmaking platform for government procurement. Eko emphasized that the success of the Domestic Product Utilization Enhancement Program (P3DN) has significantly impacted the strengthening of the manufacturing structure and national economic growth, reflected in the establishment of new factories and increased domestic employment.

Various government procurement of goods and services, as well as private enterprises using domestic products, can directly impact Indonesia's economic resilience. Economic researchers have found that every IDR1 spent on purchasing domestic products can contribute IDR2.2 or more than double back to the country. This indicates that each institution utilizing domestic products will benefit the nation and contribute to community welfare. The Ministry has identified potential government spending on purchasing domestic products of around IDR1,200 trillion. Efforts are made to match budget users with domestic product providers holding TKDN certificates, aiming to reduce dependency on imported products. Furthermore, this initiative aligns with the Ministry's policy of import substitution, aiming to establish domestic products as leaders in the domestic market. Eko emphasized the importance of reducing reliance on imported products, expressing optimism in the ability of domestic industries to dominate the domestic market.
