Government Ensures Abundant Harvest Yield

The government anticipates a bountiful rice harvest during the March-April 2024 harvest season. Suwandi, the Director General of Food Crops at the Ministry of Agriculture, assures that domestic rice supply will remain ample until Ramadan. Suwandi stated that several regions have entered the peak harvest season until May 2024. The early 2024 rice production is deemed sufficient to meet national needs. Based on the estimated data released by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the rice production forecast for March-April stands at 8.46 million tons. This substantial rice production is expected to adequately meet national requirements.

The Ministry of Agriculture prioritizes increasing rice and corn production through three strategies: expanding planting areas, enhancing agricultural productivity index, and supporting farmers with modern technology and high-quality seeds. The government remains committed to ensuring food security and stability in domestic rice supply, particularly during festive periods such as Ramadan. Suwandi highlighted the importance of effective coordination between relevant stakeholders, including local governments and farmers' groups, to optimize harvest management and distribution. Additionally, the government encourages innovation and adoption of sustainable agricultural practices to enhance productivity and resilience against climate change impacts. The Ministry of Agriculture continues to monitor market dynamics and implement necessary interventions to stabilize rice prices and prevent supply shortages. Overall, the government's concerted efforts aim to bolster agricultural resilience, ensuring food self-sufficiency and security for the nation.
