The Director of Maritime Industry for Transportation and Defense Equipment at the Ministry of Industry, Hendro Martono, revealed that the total investment in Indonesia's electric vehicle assembly industry has reached IDR 4.49 trillion. Currently, there are four electric bus companies with an annual production capacity of 1,980 units, totaling an investment of IDR 0.36 trillion. Additionally, four electric car companies boast a total production capacity of 44,000 units per year, with a collective investment of IDR 3.27 trillion. Furthermore, Indonesia hosts 54 companies producing electric two and three-wheeled vehicles, with a combined annual production capacity of 1.51 million units and a total investment of IDR 0.86 trillion. Hendro emphasized Indonesia's commitment to addressing global climate change issues as per the Paris Agreement, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, including CO2.
Incentives are provided to boost the electric vehicle industry and population in Indonesia. The government sets a target for the Indonesian automotive industry to produce 400,000 electric four-wheeled vehicles by 2025, aiming to reduce annual oil consumption by 5 million barrels and carbon emissions by 1.84 million tons. Looking ahead to 2030, the goal is to produce 600,000 electric cars and electric buses, estimated to decrease oil consumption by 7.5 million barrels and carbon emissions by 2.76 million tons. The government is dedicated to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 31.89% independently and 43.20% with international assistance, aligning with global efforts to combat climate change.
