Micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Aceh Province have commenced shellfish exports to Vietnam, totaling 5 tons in the early months of 2024. This venture, led by CV Siti Ayu Persada Shohirin, utilizes commercial airlines via Sultan Iskandar Muda International Airport in Aceh Besar for transportation. Shohirin disclosed that the shellfish exports consist of blood clams and blue mussels, sourced from various regions within Aceh, including Aceh Besar, Aceh Tamiang, and Langsa, as well as from outside the province. The current export rate to Vietnam stands at approximately 470 kilograms per shipment. Despite the high market demand for seafood commodities, Shohirin acknowledged that their export capacity to Vietnam is still limited, averaging 500-700 kilograms per shipment, conducted three times a week. This falls short of the daily demand, which can reach up to one ton, indicating room for expansion to meet market needs.
The company's export activities commenced on January 19, 2024, initially facilitated by another company, QMP Global Import Export Co Ltd, as the importing entity. Shohirin's target is to scale up exports to 15 tons monthly, highlighting aspirations for growth in the export sector. Given the natural production limitations of shellfish, Shohirin emphasized the necessity of cultivating shellfish and other fisheries commodities to bolster supply and meet export market demands. This strategy aligns with plans to further develop the export market and optimize the potential of Aceh's fisheries sector. The export initiative is supported by the Aceh Government and customs authorities, underscoring collaborative efforts to facilitate and enhance export activities. This underscores the broader objective of stimulating economic growth and leveraging Aceh's natural resources to drive sustainable development in the region.
