Minister Abadul Halim Iskandar supervised the departure of orchids for export to Taiwan, marking the first direct export from Village-Owned Enterprises (BUM Desa) Bersama lkd in Malang after a 12-year hiatus in orchid exports from the region. A significant shift in trade dynamics is noted, with Malang now contributing a third of orchid imports to Taiwan. The orchids, sourced from the Indonesian Orchid Association, are also registered under CITES for international trade. This initial export includes 113 mature Dendrobium spp. Hybrids and 1 Dendrobium lasianthera, with plans for further exports to Japan in mid-2024. Director Agus Sudrikamto of BUMDes Bersama Singosari lkd highlighted the importance of this export, emphasizing its role as a precursor to larger export endeavors.
Director General Harlina Sulistyorini of the Ministry of Villages, PDTT, commended the Indonesian Orchid Association for its support in introducing orchid cultivation units and ensuring seed supply and off-take, particularly from Taiwan. The success of this export venture is credited to extensive support from various stakeholders, including regional governments, conservation agencies, customs, and quarantine agencies. Head Ivanovich Agusta of the Ministry of Villages PDTT underscored the rigorous licensing process for BUM Desa exports, strengthening the government's commitment to supporting village-owned enterprises and enabling independent exports in the future. Key government agencies such as the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Finance, and Ministry of Trade have facilitated the licensing, taxation, customs clearance, and trade promotion for BUM Desa exports. The entrepreneurial spirit of BUM Desa Bersama Singosari lkd has been pivotal in navigating the export process, demonstrating resilience from establishing orchid gardens to successfully exporting the final product.
