During an event in South Minahasa Regency, North Sulawesi, Deputy Minister of Trade Jerry Sambuaga emphasized the export potential of coconut oil, fish, processed foods, and spices from the region. Coconut oil particularly stands out, commanding 55.97% of North Sulawesi's export market share. The central and local governments are committed to further developing the region's export potential in these leading commodities. North Sulawesi achieved significant export values totaling USD 808.8 million from January to November 2023. Coconut oil led the exports with USD 452.7 million, followed by tuna and skipjack tuna, processed foods, and spices. China emerged as the largest export destination for North Sulawesi, accounting for 19.79% of exports in 2023, followed by the Netherlands and the United States. The Netherlands, Malaysia, and the United States were primary destinations for coconut oil exports during this period, with Italy showing potential as a future market.

Fish commodities found strong markets in the United States, Japan, and South Korea, with Thailand and Singapore expected to follow suit due to significant export potential. Similarly, spices saw major export destinations in the United States, the Netherlands, and Vietnam, with India, China, and the United Arab Emirates holding promise as future markets. Jerry emphasized the importance for entrepreneurs in North Sulawesi to seize opportunities across various export commodities, including spices. The collaboration between the central and local governments aims to maximize the region's export potential and drive economic growth. This concerted effort underscores North Sulawesi's strategic position in the global export market and highlights the commitment to diversifying and expanding its export portfolio. With continued support and strategic initiatives, North Sulawesi aims to further leverage its natural resources and capitalize on emerging export opportunities in the global market.
