In the initial months of this year, Indonesia's motorcycle exports have experienced a slowdown compared to the same period last year, as reported by AISI data (12/2/2024). Year-on-year, the volume of motorcycle exports decreased by 10.89%, dropping from 39,269 units in January 2023 to 34,991 units in January 2024. Similarly, on a monthly basis, exports declined by 18.12%, decreasing from 42,737 units in December 2023 to 34,991 units in January 2024. Scooters remain the primary contributor to motorcycle exports, with automatic scooters comprising 42.56% of total exports in January 2023, followed by underbone motorcycles at 29.87% and sports motorcycles at 27.57%.
Sigit Kumala, Chair of the Commercial Division at AISI, expressed optimism regarding the potential for improved export performance in 2024 compared to the previous year's achievement of 570,004 units. While 2022 saw full assembly exports (CBU), 2023 witnessed a split between completely built-up (CBU) and completely knocked down (CKD) exports. However, data for CKD exports is still pending. Kumala hopes for resolution on this matter soon and anticipates a continued increase in exports for 2024, with targets already set for the year. This trend underscores the significance of Indonesia's motorcycle industry on the global stage and highlights the efforts of industry players to navigate challenges and capitalize on opportunities for growth. As the market continues to evolve, stakeholders are keen on adapting strategies to sustain and enhance Indonesia's position as a key player in the global motorcycle market.
