Minister Trenggono: Maritime and Fisheries Investment Surpasses IDR 9.56 Trillion

The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) reports that investments in the maritime and fisheries sector reached IDR 9.56 trillion as of the third quarter of 2023. Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Wahyu Sakti Trenggono, disclosed that this total includes domestic investment (PMDN) of IDR 5.32 trillion, foreign direct investment (PMA) of IDR 1.4 trillion, and investment credits of IDR 2.84 trillion. Trenggono highlighted that the largest PMA comes from China, totaling IDR 370.74 billion, followed by Malaysia with IDR 240.47 billion, and Switzerland with IDR 152 billion. According to sector breakdown, fish processing takes the lead with an investment value of IDR 3.65 trillion, followed by fisheries cultivation with IDR 2.6 trillion, marketing with IDR 1.95 trillion, fish catching with IDR 1.18 trillion, and fisheries services with IDR 186 billion. To ensure sustainable development in the maritime and fisheries sector, KKP has implemented five blue economy policy directions, including expanding marine conservation areas, implementing quota-based fishing, developing sustainable coastal and inland aquaculture, monitoring coastal areas and small islands, and tackling marine plastic pollution.

In addressing protein availability without depleting fish stocks, KKP is committed to promoting aquaculture as a prime mover for fish consumption needs. The strategy involves developing models for five high-value commodities: shrimp, seaweed, tilapia, lobster, and crab. Currently, KKP has established shrimp farming in Kebumen, tilapia farming in Karawang, seaweed farming in Wakatobi, and lobster farming in Batam. Trenggono also plans to develop a modern shrimp pond in Waingapu, East Nusa Tenggara, with an investment value of IDR 7.8 trillion. In closing, Trenggono invites embassy representatives to invest in Indonesia, emphasizing the government's commitment to facilitating licensing, providing incentives, ensuring security and political stability, and enhancing skilled human resource connectivity. "We hope that this investment opportunity can be maximized by all investors to collectively contribute to the advancement, resilience, sustainability, and competitiveness of Indonesia's maritime and fisheries industry," he concluded.
