The South Kalimantan Animal, Fish, and Plant Quarantine Office (Karantina Kalsel) has issued health certifications for thousands of live eels and mangrove crabs exported to China from the Syamsudin Noor Banjarmasin International Airport in Banjarbaru City. "Totaling 29,760 eels and 2,100 live mangrove crabs will be shipped to China," said Sudirman, the Head of Karantina Kalsel, in Banjarbaru on Monday (29/1/2024). Sudirman explained that for crabs to be cleared, they must be free from the White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV) and have a minimum carapace length of 12 centimeters. Eels, on the other hand, must be free from Gnathostoma and Epizootic Ulcerative Syndrome (EUS) parasites caused by the Aphanomyces invadans fungus.
Once declared free from Quarantine Fish Disease Pests (HPIK), the Quarantine can issue Health Certificates for Fish and Fishery Products (KI-D1). "The type and quantity of commodities must also be verified to match the accompanying documents," he explained as quoted by AntaraNews. Sudirman, who personally participated in the airport inspection, emphasized that the Quarantine's health certificate is a valid document ensuring the health and safety of products being transported, whether for export or inter-area transfers. "So, these thousands of commodities have undergone health checks clinically and have been sampled in laboratories to ensure they are free from HPIK," he added.
