Labuan Bajo Fish Export Reaches 4,086 Tons to Malaysia and Singapore

In the period of November-December 2023, Labuan Bajo, located in Manggarai Barat Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province (NTT), exported a total of 4,086 tons of fish to Malaysia and Singapore. The Head of the Food Security and Fisheries Service (DKPP) of Manggarai Barat, Fatinci Reynilda, revealed that the inaugural export took place on November 6, 2023, involving 438 tons of fish through Komodo Labuan Bajo Airport. The fish exports from Labuan Bajo in November 2023 were recorded at 8 shipments, totaling 2,246 tons. Meanwhile, in December 2023, fish exports were carried out 7 times, amounting to approximately 1,840 tons. The exported fish varieties included mackerel, red snapper, and grouper. Fatinci Reynilda highlighted the high quality and economic value of the fish harvested from the waters of Labuan Bajo. Although only one entrepreneur is currently engaged in exports, efforts are being made to encourage fish collectors to actively participate in export activities.

The West Manggarai Local Government is also actively promoting the exploration of fisheries potential in Labuan Bajo, aiming to attract more entrepreneurs. The region boasts a total of 3,050 fishermen spread across four districts, namely Komodo, Boleng, South Lembor, and Macang Pacar. Fatinci Reynilda reported that the total fish production in 2023 reached 7,047,606 kg, reflecting an increase from the previous year, 2022, which recorded a production of 6,751,671 kg. The encouraging trend in fish exports and production signifies the economic viability of Labuan Bajo's fisheries industry, with prospects for further growth and participation from local entrepreneurs in the export market.
