The North Maluku Animal, Fish, and Plant Quarantine Office reported a positive surge in the export of fisheries commodities from the province in 2023 compared to 2022. Willy Indra Yunan, the Head of the office, highlighted a substantial increase in the volume of non-living (frozen-dried) fisheries products, indicating a positive impact on the overall export value. The recorded export volume of non-living fisheries products surged by 83.07%, reaching 971 tons in 2023. Simultaneously, the export of live commodities witnessed a notable increase of 21.12%, accounting for 49,950 live fish in 2023 compared to 36,285 in 2022. In terms of the export value of fish commodities, 2023 saw a significant rise, reaching IDR 133 billion, marking a remarkable 75.38% increase compared to 2022, where the value was IDR 76 billion. Willy stated that 306 Health Certificates (HC) for exports were issued in 2023, emphasizing the adherence to health and safety standards. Tuna emerged as the most exported product from North Maluku to various countries, including Vietnam, Thailand, the United States, Singapore, Korea, and Malaysia. Additionally, live mud crabs were the dominant exported live commodity, primarily to Singapore.

Willy further highlighted that Vietnam, the Philippines, and Thailand remained the primary markets for the export of non-living fish commodities from North Maluku, with volumes reaching 196,432 kilograms, 148,740 kilograms, and 113,093 kilograms, respectively. The surge in live fish exports showcases the region's robust fisheries industry, contributing significantly to the province's economic activities. The positive growth in both volume and value reflects the effectiveness of the fisheries sector in North Maluku and its ability to meet international standards for exports, evident in the issuance of Health Certificates, ensuring the quality and safety of the exported fisheries products.
