Positioned strategically near the Malacca Strait and facing Malaysia and Singapore, KITB boasts a sizable, internationally recognized dock and enjoys maritime routes such as Selat Asam and Selat Lalang leading to Tanjung Buton Port. Despite its promising prospects, KITB requires essential infrastructure, including roads, electricity, and water supply. Alfedri outlines a phased approach to address these needs, aiming to attract investors gradually. Confident in KITB's growth potential, Alfedri emphasizes Siak Regency and Riau Province's abundant resources in sectors like oil and gas, plantations, agriculture, and forestry. The vision includes prioritizing downstream industries in Tanjung Buton, such as oil and gas, palm oil processing, agricultural and forestry product management, and maritime activities.
While various investors, both domestic and international, have expressed interest in KITB, the COVID-19 pandemic has temporarily delayed investment plans. Alfedri highlights ongoing communication with partners and collaboration with the Ministry of Investment/BKPM to gather investment-related information. Managed by PT KITB as a Regional-Owned Enterprise (BUMD), Tanjung Buton International Port's services fall under PT Samudra Siak's control. Alfedri details the involvement of two BUMDs in managing the area, collaborating with port service providers and envisioning the development of derivative palm oil industries. With the Tanjung Buton Port emerging as a major palm kernel shell exporter in Indonesia, Alfedri underscores its crucial evaluation by the Ministry of Investment/BKPM. Looking ahead, he envisions imminent investments flowing into KITB, propelling it into a dynamic economic hub on the coastal front.
