Breaking Global Markets, Handicrafts from Teak Wood to Bamboo Garner IDR 32.77 Billion Revenue

Indonesian SME exporter, PT HABE, has successfully penetrated the global market, earning a place in a prestigious international exhibition hosted by The Korean Importer Association (KOIMA). Established in November 2013, initially as a Foreign Direct Investment (PMA) company, HABE, founded by Hendra Budiman and two Dutch partners residing in Klaten, specializes in various handicraft products. The company operates across multiple product clusters, including crafts made from teak wood, items crafted from leaves and flowers, bamboo, albasia wood, natural stone, and a collection of dream catchers. All HABE products are exported abroad, generating a revenue of USD 2.1 million or approximately IDR 32.77 billion in the previous year, contributing significantly to employment. Hendra emphasizes the company's commitment to growth, stating that the recent annual revenue of USD 2.1 million in 2023 is a positive trajectory, aiming to boost the performance of Indonesian SMEs. HABE collaborates with various vendors for raw materials, sourcing teak wood from Jawa Timur, leaves like banana fronds and water hyacinth from Bantul, albasia wood for fish and seahorse sculptures from Bali, dream catcher materials from Madura, and bamboo/rotan from Magelang and Klaten.

Engaging with over 50 vendors, the production involves semi-finished products sent to HABE for quality enhancement and packaging. Hendra acknowledges the significant role of PT Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI), especially through the BNI Xpora program. Since its inception in 2013, HABE has partnered with BNI for financial management, receiving support for business matching, and participating in various training events. Hendra highlights their usage of BNI services, from payroll to foreign exchange transactions through BNIDirect. BNI's continuous support, including business matching and specific training events, has played a pivotal role in HABE's success. This collaborative ecosystem, blending local craftsmanship with strategic financial and logistical support, stands as a testament to the potential for Indonesian SMEs to thrive in the global marketplace.
