Indonesia and Turkey Aim to Achieve IDR 150 Trillion in Bilateral Trade

Indonesian Ambassador to Turkey, Achmad Rizal Purnama, presented his credentials in a ceremony held in Ankara on Wednesday (17/1/2023). Following the Credential Presentation Ceremony, which began with a Presidential Special Forces Honor Ceremony, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan emphasized his country's close relationship with Indonesia during bilateral discussions. In talks with Erdogan, Ambassador Rizal outlined the priorities of the 1+4 bilateral cooperation, focusing on trade and collaboration in defense and strategic industries, energy, construction, and pharmaceuticals. The discussion resulted in an agreement to swiftly achieve the target of USD 10 billion or IDR 150 trillion in bilateral trade, finalize negotiations for a second free trade agreement, expand defense industry cooperation, strengthen security and counter-terrorism collaboration, and enhance energy cooperation.

President Erdogan expressed special attention to Indonesia's consistent advocacy for the Palestinian cause on various international forums, as mentioned by Ambassador Rizal in his press statement. Erdogan also extended his prayers for the upcoming elections in Indonesia, wishing for smooth and successful proceedings that bring prosperity and progress to the Indonesian people. Ambassador Rizal assumed his duties in Turkey in early September 2023, having previously served as the Head of the Strategic Support Bureau at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. With the presentation of credentials, Rizal has completed all diplomatic protocol stages, officially commencing his role as Indonesia's representative in Turkey.
