East Kalimantan Province has successfully exported various non-oil and gas commodities to several European Union (EU) countries, totaling USD 494.51 million, equivalent to IDR 7.41 trillion with an average exchange rate of IDR 15,000 per USD. This non-oil and gas export achievement was accomplished over almost a year, spanning from January to November 2023, as reported by Yusniar Juliana, the Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of East Kalimantan in Samarinda. The detailed breakdown of the EU countries receiving these exports includes Croatia with USD 29.4 million, Spain with USD 165.38 million, Italy with USD 93.07 million, and other EU countries with a total of USD 206.66 million. However, it is noteworthy that the total export to the EU experienced a significant decline of 37.64% compared to January-November 2022, which amounted to USD 792.97 million. This decline is attributed to various factors, including global geopolitical events such as the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the Israel-Palestine conflict. Yusniar Juliana highlighted that despite the decline in EU exports, the overall non-oil and gas exports from East Kalimantan to all destination countries during January-November 2023 reached USD 2.26 billion. The exported non-oil and gas commodities during this period included mineral fuels, inorganic chemicals, organic chemicals, animal or vegetable fats and oils, various chemical products, wood and wood products, processed animal feed, fish, and other aquatic animals.

Among these commodities, mineral fuels, particularly coal, stood out as the highest export value, reaching USD 18.35 billion. This category made the most significant contribution to East Kalimantan's total exports during the specified period, accounting for 82.48% of the total. The decline in EU exports serves as a reminder of the impact of global geopolitical dynamics on regional trade. Despite this, East Kalimantan remains a substantial player in the non-oil and gas export sector, with diversified commodities contributing to its economic resilience.
