Indonesia Embraces Circular Economy as Cornerstone of Golden Indonesia 2045 Vision

Indonesia is wholeheartedly embracing the concept of a circular economy as a fundamental element of its Golden Indonesia 2045 vision, according to a statement from the Ministry of National Development Planning. Amalia Adiningrat Widyasanti, the ministry's Deputy for Economy, emphasized the transformative potential of a circular economy, positioning it as a pivotal factor in fueling future economic growth. Widyasanti cited a Greenpeace Indonesia study indicating that the adoption of a circular economy could generate 2.4 million new job opportunities in the country by 2030. In alignment with the 2025-2045 National Long-term Development Plan (RPJPN), the Indonesian government aims for a primary energy mix of 60% from new and renewable sources by 2045. To realize this ambitious goal, the government plans to intensify efforts in energy transition, develop green transportation systems, and advance the principles of a circular economy. Widyasanti outlined the government's commitment to prioritize the implementation of a circular economy across various sectors, including textiles, food and beverages, with a focus on policy formulation for energy efficiency, just energy transition, smart grids and energy storage technology, green transportation, and sustainable forest and agricultural land management.

Collaboration is at the forefront of the government's strategy, as it actively engages with private enterprises, communities, and non-governmental organizations to promote the green economy. Widyasanti expressed confidence that Indonesia, through embracing a circular economy, will not only realize economic benefits but also contribute to environmental preservation. Circular economies, she highlighted, have the potential to drive sustainable economic growth, create employment opportunities, and mitigate greenhouse gas emissions. The commitment to a circular economy stands as a testament to Indonesia's forward-looking vision, aiming to harmonize economic prosperity with environmental stewardship.
