The province of Lampung hosted the 59th Meeting of the International Coconut Community (ICC) Ministerial Level at the Santika Premiere Hotel in Bandar Lampung on Tuesday, December 5, 2023. The event, inaugurated by the Minister of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia, Zulkifli Hasan, is scheduled to run from December 5 to 7, 2023. Governor of Lampung, Arinal Djunaidi, highlighted Lampung's strong connection to the agrarian sector, positioning itself as a vital contributor to the nation's food security. He noted that Lampung's exports are predominantly comprised of agricultural and plantation products, including robusta coffee, Crude Palm Oil (CPO), canned pineapples, rubber, and coconuts. According to foreign trade performance data from January to September 2023, Lampung recorded export values totaling USD 3.4 billion, resulting in a trade surplus of USD 1.93 billion. These figures are noteworthy, considering that 2022 saw record-high exports.

"Coconut is one of Lampung's main flagship commodities. The total coconut production in Lampung reached 78,571 tons over an area of 89,673 hectares in 2022," he stated. The production activities of coconut commodities in Lampung are further supported by several large processing industrial companies. Arinal expressed hope that the 59th ICC forum could enhance synergy in strengthening coconut commodities through diversification and downstream processing. "I hope this can create a conducive environment for increasing coconut plant productivity, improving product competitiveness, and strengthening markets," he remarked. Minister of Trade, Zulkifli Hasan, emphasized their commitment to developing a sustainable and value-added coconut plantation sector for the welfare of farmers. "It indeed needs to develop the industry, providing added value not only in the factory but also for the farmers," he stated.
