Ministry of Trade Supports Opening of Indonesian Product Stores in Malaysia

The Ministry of Trade is actively facilitating the opening of specialized Indonesian product stores in Malaysia to boost the export of Indonesian goods. The fourth branch of this network officially opened on Monday (4/12/2023) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The ceremony was led by Didi Sumedi, the Director-General of National Export Development at the Indonesian Ministry of Trade, alongside the Republic of Indonesia's Ambassador to Kuala Lumpur, Dato Indra Hermono. During the opening ceremony, Didi Sumedi emphasized that the Indonesian Product Stores play a crucial role in effectively promoting exports, particularly for products produced by small and medium-sized enterprises (UKM). The Ministry of Trade commends the efforts of businesses striving to enhance export performance to Malaysia through the establishment of specialized Indonesian product stores. Given that Malaysia is one of Indonesia's primary export destinations, the penetration of the market through these stores is a commendable and strategic step. "In the midst of declining global commodity prices, such efforts are crucial to assist Indonesia's trade performance," expressed Didi Sumedi.

Ambassador Hermono highlighted the vast potential for Indonesian products in Malaysia, considering the substantial number of Indonesian diaspora in the country. "The Indonesian diaspora in Malaysia is the largest in the world, and this, of course, represents a unique market for Indonesian products in Malaysia," stated Hermono. In conjunction with the inauguration of the Indonesian product store, a trade commitment worth IDR 573.2 billion for food and beverage products was signed. This commitment also covers the needs of Indonesian product stores throughout Malaysia. In 2023, the trade commitments from Malaysia have increased compared to the previous year. Deden Muhammad Fajar Shiddiq, the Trade Attaché of the Republic of Indonesia in Kuala Lumpur, expressed hope that the longstanding trade relationship between Indonesia and Malaysia would endure amidst the fluctuations in the global economy.
